Environmental Impact Assessment
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) can be generally defined as "a comprehensive assessment of the impact of a planned activity on the environment". In essence it is a systematic process that examines the environmental consequences for certain type of developments before they are granted consent. The requirement for EIA comes from European Directive (85/33/EEC as amended by 97/11/EC).

- Screening if an EIA is required and scoping the content and breadth of an EIA for a proposed development;
- The assessment of site baseline conditions, alternative locations for development, and cumulative impacts assessment;
- EIA management and co-ordination;
- Integrated mitigation and compensation programmes;
- Production of an Environmental Statement (ES) to support a planning application;
- Review and interpretation of an existing ES to ensure the appropriateness of the document
