The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2006 which came into force on November 2006 put even greater emphasis on Asbestos Management, Asbestos Surveys and Asbestos Awareness Training in the UK. Under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 the guidance states "Owners and occupiers of non-domestic premises, who have maintenance and repair responsibilities for those premises, have a duty to assess them for the presence of asbestos and the condition of that asbestos.

Legionaires' disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia that can affect anybody, it is therefore essential to control the risks.

The HSE published in 1991 the approved code of practice and guidance document Legionnaires' disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems (L8). The document outlines legal duties and guidance on how to comply with the law.
